Be Thankful. But Don’t Forget to Plan

< Back to Insights

This Thanksgiving, Give Your Finances a Seat at the Table.

Thanksgiving gives us a welcome opportunity to slow down, gather with the people we love, and appreciate what we’ve built. But between family celebrations, travel, and the start of an expensive holiday season, it’s also easy to put financial planning on the “I’ll get to that later” list.

And later has a way of arriving quickly. The days can feel long, but the years are surprisingly short. Even among successful families, having a strong income or accumulated wealth doesn’t necessarily mean there’s a comprehensive plan behind it. According to Federal Reserve Survey of Consumer Finances data reported by USAFacts, only 46% of American households reported having money in dedicated retirement accounts.

For affluent families, the financial picture may look very different, but the underlying lesson is the same: preparing for your financial future requires intentional action.

You may have built considerable wealth, but are your investments positioned appropriately for the retirement you envision? Are you making the most of your peak earning years? Are your tax, estate, retirement, and investment strategies working together? Do you know what you’re paying and how your investments are actually performing? And has your financial plan kept pace with the changes in your life? These are questions worth asking and there’s no need to feel discouraged if you don’t have all the answers.

The holidays can make almost everyone feel as though money is going out faster than it’s coming in. Gifts, travel, entertainment, charitable giving, and family expenses add up quickly. But that’s not a reason to avoid looking at your finances. It’s a reason to better understand them. The best time to start planning may have been years ago – the next best time is now.

At JL Bainbridge, our Wealth Clarity Review provides a fresh, objective look at where you are today and where you want to go. Whether you already work with an advisor, manage portions of your wealth yourself, or simply haven’t reviewed your complete financial picture in some time, we’ll help identify what’s working, where questions remain, and where there may be opportunities to strengthen your plan.

Be thankful for what you’ve built. Then make a plan to protect what’s next. Schedule your complimentary JL Bainbridge Wealth Clarity Review today.
